The weather looks beautiful for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend - perfect for grilling some grass-fed meats on the BBQ AND getting the rest of that garden planted!
For the BBQ options we have a great selection of grass-fed beef and pasture-raised pork and chicken available in the store. Read on for some grilling specials below. And for your garden, we have a great selection of organic seedlings still available - all at 10% off this weekend while supplies last.
Our egg production has slowed down a bit over the last month and we are selling out pretty quickly most days, sometimes before noon. So we have brought in some reinforcements - pasture-raised organic eggs from Three Brothers Farm in nearby Oconomowoc, Wisconsin (branded as Prairie Gold).
Michael and Courtney Gutschenritter own Three Brothers Farm - they mostly produce pasture-raised eggs but they also have a sizeable flock of Shetland sheep for lamb and fleece. Their bark-tanned sheepskins and 100% wool rugs we now have available in our farm store.
Michael is also known throughout the pasture-raised poultry community for some of his innovative designs - he was an engineer prior to his farming endeavours. One of his designs is the “HenPen” - a portable hoophouse that can hold up to 750 hens with a large section of outdoor pasture fenced in with poultry fencing attached on the sides and behind the hoophouse. One person can move the entire setup to fresh grass every day in a few minutes with a small utility tractor.
We liked the idea so much we are building one ourselves for our Wisconsin farm - Anna and I were working on it for several days this week. She caught a flattering picture of me installing the doors. We made good progress and hope to have it finished next week (the new hens are arriving June 3rd!).
We will send more pics and maybe a video of our HenPen in motion when finished.

TWO “MEET THE MAKER” EVENTS THIS WEEKEND
Tomorrow (Saturday May 23th)- our very own Mallory, founder of Tourmaline Hearth will sample and talk about her extensive collection of tallow lotions, cremes, and balms from 10:30 - 1:30. She can answer any and all questions from the “tallow-curious”.
On Sunday (May 24th) we are excited to welcome back our on-site organic veggie farmer Karolina to share samples of her garden bounty. Stop by and ask her all your gardening question or inquire about her CSA program.
Stay tuned for more Meet the Maker events coming in June!
