FARM HAPPENINGS
We welcomed another Guernsey heifer calf born yesterday to Whirlwind. I believe she is the lucky 13th heifer calf we've had this year, a new record for us. Hopefully we can turn most of them into productive milk cows in a few more years to ease our raw milk shortage.

Our tradition is to name the heifer calves after their mom's first initial, which helps us to remember the lineage of our cows over time just by their names. So we are looking for a good cow name that starts with a “W”…and we already have a Windy, Wildfire and a Whoopi so we can't reuse those names. I like “Whatever” since all the youngsters say that now, but am interested in other name ideas from our readers.
TURKEY UPDATE
Thanksgiving is just a week away and we are in the the midst of our busiest time of the year. With over 300 turkeys already processed, we still have about 75 or 80 frozen turkeys available in the farm store for purchase. Most of the remaining turkeys are in the 16 - 23 lb. range with a handful of larger and smaller ones. All the turkeys ordered for home delivery have already been shipped as of Monday this week.
The fresh turkey pickups begin Saturday morning at 10 AM, with a second fresh turkey pickup next Tuesday beginning at 10 AM. All those with a fresh turkey reservation should have received an email today with pickup instructions, if you haven't seen it yet maybe check your spam filter. We will have lots of large turkeys this year so if you are looking for a big one (over 18 pounds) avoid the long lines in the morning and come get your turkey in the afternoon.
