FALL FEST RESCHEDULED FOR NEXT SATURDAY 25th
We were anxiously watching the weather forecast all week hoping the rains would hold off Saturday afternoon when we were planning our annual Fall Festival on the Farm. On Wednesday we finally decided to reschedule the event when the forecast called for a 70% chance of thunderstorms. We knew that our catering vendor would need a few days notice as well as all of those that had already purchased tickets.
As luck would have it the heavy rains have now been pushed off until tonight and this afternoon is expected to be very nice! The weather for next Saturday looks very fall-like with only a 20% chance of rain. Let's hope that doesn't change.
So the Fall Fest is now on for next Saturday, October 25th from 12 - 4 PM. Fun events will include the hay mountain, a hay maze, and the Farm Olympics including the egg toss, chicken rodeo, gunnysack race, hay bale toss, spoon egg race, tug of war, and the three-legged race, and bale toss. And of course hay wagon tours of the farm to see the cows, chickens, pigs, and turkeys in their pasture settings. And of course all you can eat Street Tacos from the famous Jarabe Taco Truck. We still have a good number of spots available, reserve your tickets here.
CHICKEN AND TURKEY UPDATE
We processed our last batch of pasture-raised broiler chickens for the season on Wednesday, so we will have FRESH chicken available in the farm store through Sunday evening at 5 PM. After that we still have a good supply of frozen whole chickens, boneless breasts, thighs, legs, and feet available in our freezers to keep the store supplied through the winter and early spring until we start raising meat chickens again next April.
And with the Thanksgiving Holiday coming on in a few weeks we are getting a lot of inquiries about our pasture-raised bronze turkeys. While our fresh turkeys have all been reserved, we do anticipate having a strong supply of frozen turkeys available beginning the first week of November.
Our first turkey processing date is Wednesday, November 5th. We will have those turkeys available in the farm store the next day by 11:00 AM. Feel free to stop by and pick out your preferred size any time after that. We have another processing date the following Monday so even more turkeys will be available the next week.
For those that can't make it to the farm store that week or want to lock in their Thanksgiving Turkey purchase now, we are offering online reservations for frozen turkeys, available for store pickup or home delivery. Pre-Order your turkey now and we will do our best to fill all size requests. We expect most turkeys will be in the 15 - 20 lb. range but we will always have some smaller ones and jumbos as well. We recommend 2 lbs. of turkey per guest served. If you order a turkey for home delivery we expect to start shipping them on Monday November 10th.
FARM STORE UPDATE
Our grass-fed beef inventory is a little thin right now, in particular the premium steaks as we didn't process any beef in September. However we did harvest sixteen head in early October and once the dry-aging process is complete we should have a broad selection of all beef cuts including the premium steaks and roasts back in the farm store (and online) by the end of October.
We are starting to harvest our summer hogs as well. The first batch went in already, and we will have several more batches going in over the next two months. Order a whole hog now to fill your freezer with delicious pasture-raised pork chops, bacon, sausages, and ribs for the winter. You can't find pork raised like this in the grocery stores.
Our Saturday farm tours continue through Thanksgiving (except Oct. 25th for Fall Fest). The tours start at 1:00 PM. Weather forecast now looks great for this afternoon - purchase tour tickets online or in the farm store.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Fall Fest next Saturday!
