Fall Fest + Farm Olympics, Thanksgiving Turkey Update, No Corn/No Soy Chickens

Fall Fest + Farm Olympics, Thanksgiving Turkey Update, No Corn/No Soy Chickens

FARM HAPPENINGS
We have the date set for the annual Fall Festival on the Farm - this year it will be Saturday, October 18th from 12 PM - 4 PM.  We will re-create the “hay mountain” which was a big hit with all the kids last year.  And this year we are also planning for our first-ever “Farm Olympics” - a series of fun contests for kids of all ages including the egg toss, chicken rodeo, gunnysack race, hay bale toss, spoon egg race, tug of war, and the three-legged race. As well as hay wagon tours of the farm to see the cows, chickens, pigs, and turkeys in their pasture settings. We expect the Farm Olympics will be great fun!

Food will again be provided by the La Adelita Taco Truck. They will be coming out from Chicago to serve up their famous street tacos - Carne Asada, Beef Birria, Chicken Tinga, Al Pastor and Mojo Mushrooms. Made with our own grass-fed beef and pasture-raised pork and chicken. Side dishes will include chips and salsa, roasted tomato rice, refried black beans, and guacamole. All you can eat including bottled water and flavored sparkling water will be provided.

We have only 100 tickets available, reserve your space now. $30 for adults, $20 for kids 5 - 12, $15 for little tykes that don't eat much.

THANKSGIVING TURKEY UPDATE
As the weather transitions to fall we are getting more inquiries about our pasture-raised, organically-fed Thanksgiving Turkeys. The FRESH turkeys, available for pickup the week of Thanksgiving, are almost sold out. As of this writing I checked and there are 15 left for pickup on Wednesday Nov. 26th, the day before the holiday. Click here to reserve one of these last fresh turkeys.

Even if you are not able to get a fresh turkey this year, beginning in the next week or so we will begin taking online reservations for pickup or delivery of frozen turkeys, which will be available starting the first week of November. We hope to have another 300-400 frozen turkeys to sell during November, both online as well as in the farm store. More info to come soon.

FARM STORE UPDATE
We did process another batch of our pasture-raised chickens on Wednesday, the last of the No Corn/No Soy broilers for the year.  We set aside 200 for fresh sales on Thursday but they were very popular and sold out already. Next year we will look to add another batch or two of the No Corn/No Soy chickens but will likely need to find a new feed supplier for them as our current mill has difficulty delivering us a consistent quality organic NC/NS feed. We still have a good quantity of frozen No Corn/No Soy chicken available in the farm store as well as online.

Fresh local and organic produce available in the store this week from our on-site gardens includes Butternut Squash, Cherry Tomatoes, Eggplant, Radishes, Green Beans, Purple Beans, Beets, Daikon Radish, Red Radishes, and Pie Pumpkins. Other local produce from Broadview Farms includes sweet yellow onions, Green Peppers, Jalapeno Peppers, and Shishito Peppers, as well as local organic garlic from Garlic eScape Farm in Woodstock and local mushrooms from Crystal Lake Mushrooms.

Other Organic fruits and vegetables available this week include Apples, Oranges, Pears, Dates, Lemons, Limes, Grapefruit, Avocado, Ginger, Turmeric, Carrots, Squash, Cauliflower, Red potatoes, Yellow potatoes, Russet potatoes, Sweet potatoes, and Shallots

New Products in the store this week include Manna Munchies – gluten free, plant based, grain-free Sprouted Snack Crunchies: Ginger Fig Date and Banana Coconut Butter: Toasted Coconut Cashew, No added sugar Coconut Cashew, Roasted Dark Choco Pecan, Nuts ‘N Seeds Help and Chia.
