FARM HAPPENINGS
We are seeing the first hints of fall on the farm - and for us that means not only cooler weather but a looming slowdown from the intense farm workload of spring and summer. The brooder house is now empty of chicks and turkey poults as the last batches are now out in the pasture shelters. We will start converting it into winter layer housing soon. Thanksgiving turkeys are all out on pasture, and our first batch of spring pigs will be ready for harvest in a few weeks.
We have just four batches of broiler chickens left to process. We did not process any this week but are processing another next Monday, so we will have fresh chicken back in the farm store on Tuesday September 15th by noon. The following week we are planning to process the final batch of No Soy/No Corn broiler chickens for the season on Wednesday September 24th. The last batch of NS/NC fresh chickens sold out in less than a day so we will plan to keep a larger number of this batch fresh when we bring them back to the store on Thursday 9/26.
FALL CUSTOM PORK ORDERS NOW OPEN
We were able to source plenty of good quality heritage feeder pigs this spring and summer, so we are looking forward to an abundance of pasture-raised pork to harvest this fall. We have just opened up ordering today for custom whole hog orders on our website. This is the most economical way to fill your freezer with great tasting, organically-raised healthy pork for the winter. Order now for pickups in October, November, or December.
