Brat Abundance. Egg Bonanza. Stewing Hens.

FARM HAPPENINGS
We've all been enjoying this cooler weather over the past week - both farmers and animals alike have been in a much better mood for sure.  Now if we could just get a little rain…

The hens are still giving us copious amounts of eggs so the egg bundle sale is still on …save $1- $2 per dozen based on the size of the bundle. Order the bundles online for in-store pickup or grab a bundle on your next farm store visit.

We did take in over 500 of the older layers for processing this morning, so that will reduce our egg production by quite a bit, and also restock the farm store with stewing hens that have been sold out for many months.  I will pick them up from the processor on Monday and get the stewing hens back to the farm store by Tuesday afternoon.

Next week we are processing two batches of broiler chickens - one batch we raised on the organic No Corn/No soy feed and the other on regular organic feed.  Right now the plan is that we will have fresh chickens from the NC/NS batch in the farm store by Tuesday afternoon and the fresh regular chickens by Thursday morning.

Our friends at Hometown Sausage Kitchen just made another batch of artisan brats and sausages from our pasture-raised pork last week and we have all varieties in stock right now, including my favorite the Bacon Cheddar Jalapeno brats. To celebrate our brat abundance we are featuring the Jalapeno brats on sale this weekend at 15% off. Nothing better than brats and fresh corn on the grill for the perfect summertime meal!  My new grilled corn cooking tip is to baste the corn with melted butter and spices/herbs every few minutes while rotating them - ready to eat right off the grill with no further seasoning required.

“MEET THE MAKER” EVENTS COMING UP
Saturday August 1st – Our beekeeper Willie will be back showcasing his many different honey and bee products and can answer any and all questions about bees. 10 AM - 1 PM.

Anna is back from Europe next Thursday so I can relax just a bit.  Meat bundle shipping will resume the week of August 3rd and maybe eggs too! Stay tuned…
